Living Your Rhythm Midst the Chaos
Encouragement and support for trusting your Soul, bucking the system, slowing down, and finding a sustainable, enjoyable pace for your life.
There are days we just need to SLOW DOWN—take a break, recharge, or simply stop all together.
In the midst of so many cultural pressures to run at the pace of business… technology… entertainment… it can be hard to step out of the automatic programming of the rat race.
When we’re in the throes of a season that pulls us into heavy activity, it can feel especially difficult to run counter to the automatic ways of being all around us.
Yet if we remember that Nature’s clock runs slower than the modern world, we can give ourselves permission to be different from the unnatural human habits that surround us.
Like singing your own unique tune in a chorus of voices, bucking the timing of the system requires specific consciousness.
Living your own unique rhythm—the pace that makes your heart sing and your body thrive—is one of the many challenges of a magical life.
Luckily, there are lots of little ways to support yourself in finding that pace. Whether you’re completely off-kilter from years of following someone else’s drumbeat or you just need little reminders to find your timing… you can use these practices to bring a little more SLOW and FLOW into your daily routine.
Connect with Nature — Even just a few minutes staring at a tree or a cloud can slow your heart rate and deepen your breath. Tapping into the natural pace of Nature brings you into accord with the wider world timing and carves space for you to sink into your own body.
Sink into Your Body — Placing your hand on your belly helps to drop your consciousness down from a racing mind toward the full-bodied intuition of your belly. This can feel uncomfortable at first, but connecting with the natural pace of intuition makes it easier discover what is correct for YOU in each moment.
Follow Your Flow — When something feels right… do it! Follow it. Cherish it. Nourish that feeling! When you trust the natural movements of your body, you cultivate a flow state that (science has shown) is a yummier and more efficient way to get things done1.
Trust Your “No” — Overloaded humans aren’t healthy. Flow is impossible when you’re engaged with activities that aren’t on your Divine Path. Granting yourself the beauty and freedom to set boundaries that are correct for you is one of the greatest gifts you can learn.
We are sovereign beings with great magic who carry within us the true Wisdom of what we need—a Wisdom that's easier to hear when we slow down.
When we mold ourselves to fit the system and take on the hectic pace of hustle, we easily get thrown off course and struggle to find our way back to center. It’s a slippery slope from fitting in with our with our world and performing the duties of daily life to disregarding the inner whispers that are often subtle and easy to ignore.
BUT BEWARE…
When we ignore the tiny tugs of intuition often enough…
we lose the ability to hear our innate Wisdom.
We’re continuously told—through moms, media, and more—what society thinks is best for us…
But only YOU really know what is best for you.
Not your brain. Nor the part of you that easily succumbs to the pressures outside. Not the selfish, reactionary creature who comes out when you’re depleted. Nor the good kid you try to be to please others.
YOU.
The Soul Self whose quiet voice is always there beneath the noise.
Do you hear your Soul calling softly for silence… for stillness… for Self care?
Honor that message…
Find a way to nourish that creature. Let them dance and play, sing and scream until they are loud enough… strong enough to lead you.
Then, let them lead.
Start small…
Perhaps a walk in Nature, a bath, or simply some quiet time away from your devices.
Pay attention…
As you learn to trust your inner guidance—if you’re watching closely—you’ll find that your own inner Wisdom is greater than anything you imagined possible.
Practice daily…
Without practicing the healthy habits of your Soul Path, magic arrives only at peak moment instead of embedding itself in the fabric of your reality.
Practice makes practical.
What would your life look like if you trusted the One-Who-Knows-You-By-Heart and followed your own unique rhythm?
… I’d love to hear your vision of what your life might be.
Listening to my rhythm isn’t always automatic for me, but I all ways prioritize the practice. When I’m following my own unique tempo, there’s a sweetness to everything. The many tasks of daily life flow effortlessly and with great joy.
Still, the pressure of expectation can throw me off-balance.
When everyone is hungry and Mama needs to get dinner on the table, it’s tricky to slow down and find the natural pace of my body. Years of unhealthy conditioning—being rushed and taught that others are more important—has left me uncomfortable with the ease that’s inevitable when I’m rockin’ my rhythm.
Yet I know the more I trust that flow, the more magical my life becomes. The more coincidences find me. The more delight I experience in daily tasks.
As a mother, I’m constantly aware of my daughters’ internal flow and the power I have to encourage or disrupt it. For most of us, the natural pace of our bodies wasn’t respected when we were children. Though it can sometimes feel excruciating to go at a 2 year-old’s exploratory cadence when we have somewhere to be, I try to follow her lead as often as I can. I don’t always succeed, but perhaps together we can rediscover the instinctive pulse of being human… even in the midst of this wild world we inhabit.
There’s an entire section dedicated to achieving a “flow” brain state in Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman.
Summer is such a busy season and I feel like I have a million and a half things I need and want to do. I don’t show myself the same level of self-care as I do during the rest of the year. I have come to depend on the little things I’ve been adding to my summer routine, like doing breath work in the morning while I’m lying in bed or stepping into the shower with the intention of making it cold at the end for some cold therapy. And like you said, going into Nature as often as I can is key.
Thank you so much for this wisdom, Allysha! I felt my whole body soften when I read this. Lately, I've been pushing myself into un-Jenna rhythms. I'm not even sure why. It's all self-imposed deadlines around some story I've made up about what needs to be done by a certain time. Truly, thank you for this reminder to open my fists and let my natural rhythmic genius take the lead. ❤️
