"Honey, You're Not in Your Body"
My personal journey to empowered embodiment and how incredibly lucky I was to have someone to See and support me in the process of embodying my Soul. Now, I'm paying it forward...
When I was in high school, my mom and I used have a special time before she went to bed when we just sat and talked. One evening when I was about 16, I was dealing with a lot of stress from exams, and I asked her to rub my shoulders.
My mom gives the best massages.
She’s a trained massage therapist who’s always willing to help my body find what it needs. (Yes, I know how lucky I’ve been!)
I’ll never forget this night in particular, because the moment she touched my shoulders, she pulled her hands away as if they’d been burned. Then she took a deep breath, set both hands on my shoulders with great intention, and said something I’d never heard before:
“Honey, you’re not in your body.”
“What? What does that even mean?” I asked, sounding unintentionally snarky and sarcastic, the way teenagers so often do.
How could I not be in my body? Where else would I be?
The idea sounded ridiculous.
Used to my teenage tone, my mom patiently explained that my consciousness was floating around somewhere “out there”.
“You don’t want to feel your feelings, so you left your body,” she said gently.
That’s where the gentleness ended.

My mom immediately started patting my shoulders, tapping me on the head, karate chopping my back the way massage therapists do, and punctuating her movements with staccato commands: “Allysha! GET… IN… YOUR… BODY!”
“RIGHT… … … HERE!” she said dramatically. She grabbed my face and smooshed my cheeks together, holding me captive and looking into my eyes. I saw a hint of playfulness in her deep-seeing hazels, but as I gazed into their depths, I could feel her calling me, urging me toward presence.
“Good,” she said, with an easy smile and a small nod. “Now sink down into your body,” she ordered, as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
“Feel your arms… Good, now your belly… Now your feet…”
My mom is a hereditary Seer—her line’s where many of my gifts come from. Now that I’ve trained my own gifts, I understand how clearly she could See exactly what was going on inside me.
She helped me work through the discomfort of being present… to notice the urge to flee and choose—in spite of everything—to stay.
At the time, I didn’t realize how much that evening would change my life:
“Honey, you’re not in your body…”
I don’t know when my consciousness left my body—whether I never came in fully or whether a traumatic event caused me to leave—but as mom coached me through bringing my awareness down into my physical body, I could feel the difference.
Now, more than 20 years later—this body has become a highly-sensitive vessel of awareness.
I feel and experience the world in every cell of my body, offering untold Wisdom and subtle information that isn’t available to those who haven’t yet learned to walk with their feet on the Earth.
I was unbelievably lucky to have someone who could coach me through those first, challenging moments of embodiment.
And now it’s time to pay it forward.

WOW, Allysha what a great gift your mom gave you! I think I might be envious! My mom did the opposite.
When I first heard those words, "you are not your body", I was stunned, as you were. And I was older and had already been on the spiritual path for awhile, so it sunk in fairly quickly. Of course, I am not my body, I am so much more. Speaking those words made it real. By that, I could see the patterning and conditioning that was set in place that told me otherwise. Quite the journey after that...
