The Threshold of 2025
As we cross this imaginary threshold from 2024 to 2025, can we allow ourselves the space to stand in the doorway, looking both forward and back?
Every year, between Christmas and New Year’s, my little family visits our dear friends in New York. They have a wonderful house an hour north of the city, where we go for an annual “staycation”.
It’s well worth the 8+ hour drive with a toddler for this much-needed rest time, where we have no responsibilities and nothing is expected of us.
For a week outside of time, we order takeout and eat decadent food, watch movies non-stop, drink coffee, craft beer, sparkling water, and champagne, and lie around without feeling guilty AT ALL.
Considering the fact that we’re all attentive parents with full-time+ jobs, this week is something we look forward to all year.
This is the reset we need to go back out there and be awesome day after day.
This group have all known each other for so long that there’s no pretense, no holding back, no worrying about what others might think. For one week, it’s just sarcasm, movie references, and inappropriate utterances of, “That’s what she said.” (Yes, I know we’re old school and probably offensive, but that’s how I relax!)
I can’t imagine facing the deep snows and constant pressures of January without this week to rest and reflect. To allow myself to be exactly as I am as I let go of the old year.
You probably won’t hear from me again until the new year…
So before I sign off I wanted to check in—
How do you spend this time before the turning of the page?
How do you close out the old year?
Do you take the time to get complete?
Are you extra sweet and gentle with yourself?
Do you give yourself the space to rest and reflect?
January was named for the Roman god Janus, god of doorways, gateways, and transitions. With two faces, he looks both forward and back—seeing the past and future at once.
As we cross this imaginary threshold from the 2024 to 2025, let us bring enough consciousness to allow ourselves the liminal space in between—a time outside of time—standing in the doorway, looking both forward and back.
There’s so much pressure to be better in the future… to change the things that aren’t working… but any real change begins with simply being present to what’s so.
Can you sit and rest? Can you be with things exactly as they are without trying to change them? What happens when you look backwards and forward at the same time?
Bonus points for actually taking a break and sitting down while you do it!
Instead of adding one more thing to your list or pressuring yourself to be more… better… or different…
I invite you to take a break. To just stop. Even for a moment.
You can’t make 2025 an amazing year—but if you’re willing to be fully present to whatever arises, a new Beauty and Magic will appear.
It may be the greatest gift you can give yourself this year.
From re-discovering ancient Wisdom to embarking on epic mystical adventures, I explore the magic that’s possible for human beings here on Planet Earth. Mystery, Magic & Mayhem is where I share the insights I glean from a life beyond the common culture of the West—engaged with a powerful, magical reality.
Whether you’re interested in understanding the reality of magic beneath the everyday world… living in deeper relationship with the mystical universe… or exploring the gifts of your birthright as a creature of Earth… this community is a space to train your magic.
Becoming a paid subscriber supports me in the deep work of bringing the reality of magic back to a world that has become disenchanted. It is an acknowledgement of the time and energy it takes to explore, experiment, research, and write about real magic.
A a THANK YOU—paid subscribers receive access to all our community live events! Join us in January for Community Energy Magic, Mini Magical Mentorship, and Heretic Happy Hour.
Thank you for the insightful wisdom. Transitions are never easy especially when we put additional pressure on ourselves to change without knowing what to change to bring. Enjoy your time away and the peace and inner wisdom it brings. ❤️
What a fun staycation! We are usually finishing up our family get together in the in between. I do try to take plenty of time to rest and relax. Luckily our family get together aren’t too stressful.
