Tomorrow, we arrive at the Equinox—Spring or Fall depending on where on this little blue planet you find yourself.
Some holydays are marked on our calendars because of events of the past which happened on that day or at that time, still others were chosen at random to commemorate important ideas… but an Equinox is something different.
The day marked on the calendar is not a symbol of something else. It is a recognition of a far greater event occuring in the natural world.
Tomorrow, the Earth aligns in the heaven at the tipping point between winter and summer.
Tomorrow, the day and night are in perfect balance—of equal length.
(Hence the name EQUInox)
There is a great sense of balance in the way the Earth evenhandedly flows between night and day, winter and summer, dying and birthing.
A balance that is often lost in our modern world.
We have become disconnected…
As the lights (especially those pesky blue lights on all our devices) stay on day and night.
And our blessèd homes keep the elements at bay with thermostats and insulation.
As our schedules become determined by the intervals of the clock rather than the rhythms of our bodies.
We forget the importance of a day… and a night… in perfect balance.
What would it look like feel into that balance?
To drink it in like medicine.
To bathe in it like a sacred balm.
To alllow ourselves to feel deeply held by it.
I want to invite you into a sacred practice.
